Analysis of Quality Evaluation Standards and Inspection Key Points of Aluminum - Plastic Composite Films

    2025-05-07

The quality of aluminum-plastic composite films directly impacts their application effects across various fields. Multiple factors, ranging from material properties to production processes, determine product quality. A clear understanding of quality evaluation standards and key inspection points is crucial for ensuring product reliability.

Barrier performance stands as one of the core indicators for assessing the quality of aluminum-plastic composite films. The oxygen transmission rate and water vapor transmission rate are directly linked to the shelf life and safety of packaged products. In food packaging, high-quality aluminum-plastic composite films should have an oxygen transmission rate below 1 cm³/(m²·24h·0.1MPa) and a water vapor transmission rate below 2 g/(m²·24h) to ensure that food remains unaffected by oxidation and moisture during storage. For testing, the differential pressure method or equal-pressure method is typically employed for measuring the oxygen transmission rate, while infrared sensors or electrolytic sensors are used to determine the water vapor transmission rate.

Mechanical performance testing encompasses tensile strength, peel strength, and puncture strength. Tensile strength reflects the film's ability to resist external tensile forces. In battery packaging applications, the longitudinal tensile strength of aluminum-plastic composite films must reach over 150 MPa to withstand volume changes during battery charging and discharging. Peel strength indicates the firmness of the bond between layers of materials. For aluminum-plastic composite films produced using solvent-free lamination technology, the peel strength should be no less than 7 N/15mm. Puncture strength testing simulates damage caused by sharp objects. For instance, aluminum-plastic composite films used in medical device packaging need a puncture strength exceeding 30 N to prevent product contamination from external foreign objects piercing the packaging during transportation.

Heat-seal performance is also a key indicator. Heat-seal strength and the heat-seal temperature window determine the packaging's sealing effect and production applicability. Ideal aluminum-plastic composite films should achieve a heat-seal strength of over 30 N/15mm and a wide heat-seal temperature window (usually requiring a temperature difference range of ≥20°C) to adapt to temperature fluctuations in different packaging equipment. During testing, a heat-sealing tester is used for heat-sealing at various temperatures, pressures, and times, followed by measuring the heat-seal strength through a tensile test.

Additionally, hygiene and safety indicators are particularly important in food and pharmaceutical packaging. Tests for items such as solvent residue levels and heavy metal content are necessary to ensure that packaging materials do not contaminate the contents. For example, the benzene-based solvent residue level in aluminum-plastic composite films for food contact must be below 0.01 mg/m² to safeguard consumer health.

Appearance quality is another aspect that cannot be ignored. Defects such as bubbles, wrinkles, scratches, or color differences on the surface of aluminum-plastic composite films not only affect the aesthetics but also may reduce the barrier and mechanical properties. In high-end packaging fields like luxury goods packaging, even minor appearance flaws can lead to product rejection. Therefore, visual inspection is a necessary step in quality control, usually requiring that the number of visible defects per square meter does not exceed a specified limit, such as no more than 2 bubbles with a diameter larger than 0.5mm.

Resistance to environmental factors is also critical for long-term use. This includes resistance to high and low temperatures, humidity, and light. For example, in automotive parts packaging that may be exposed to extreme temperatures, aluminum-plastic composite films should maintain stable performance after being placed at -40°C to 80°C for 100 hours without cracking, delamination, or significant changes in mechanical strength. In agricultural product packaging, UV resistance is required to prevent degradation caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight, which could otherwise compromise the packaging's protective function.

The production process parameters also have a direct impact on product quality. Factors such as the temperature, pressure, and speed during the lamination process must be strictly controlled. For instance, in the dry lamination process, the drying temperature of the adhesive should be maintained within 60-80°C to ensure complete volatilization of solvents while avoiding adhesive aging. Any deviation in these parameters may result in poor bonding between layers, thereby reducing the overall performance of the composite film.

Moreover, different application fields have specific additional requirements. In the field of electronic product packaging, aluminum-plastic composite films need to have anti-static properties to prevent static electricity from damaging sensitive electronic components, requiring a surface resistance of 10⁶-10⁹Ω. In chemical packaging, they must be resistant to chemical corrosion, ensuring that they do not react with the packaged chemicals or cause leakage even after long-term contact.

With the continuous improvement of industry standards, the quality inspection of aluminum-plastic composite films will become more stringent and standardized, driving continuous enhancements in product quality. Manufacturers are also investing more in research and development to improve production technologies and raw material formulas, aiming to meet the increasingly diverse and high-level quality requirements of various industries.
